The Wicked Wildfire Read-A-Thon is a time when we all get together to dedicate the days of June 20-24to as much reading as possible. You read as much as you can in order to get yourself a little further through that huge to-read pile! We know real life gets in the way and even if you can’t participate more than one day, you’re welcome to join in on the fun!
In the meanwhile, we will be hosting book-related challenges where you can win some awesome prizes and have a Twitter party at the hashtag #WWReadathon! You can posts updates on your blog, Twitter, Goodreads or Facebook — as long as the profile is public and we all can enjoy your reading progress!
I'm so thrilled to be participating in this 3rd edition of the #WWReadathon. Not only do I have a ton of reading that needs to get done...but these are so much fun!
And I am happy to be hosting a challenge again - so be sure to check back Thursday at 4pm for Wicked Title Trouble!
So what's my plan?
I'm currently in the middle of two books:
Shadow of Night - Deborah Harkness (Nook)
The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern (Audio)
The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern (Audio)
I plan to finish both of these by Friday. Then I have two lovely days off from work and hope to make a dent into my TBR by reading the following:
The Plight and Plot of Princess Penny - Michael Mullin
Duplicity - Nikki Jefford
And if by some miracle I finish these...I have a few more waiting in the wings:
The Orchid House - Lucinda Riley
Letter from a Stranger - Barbara Taylor Bradford
The Underside of Joy - Sere Prince Halverson
6/20/12-DAY ONE:
#1 - Something Wicked This Way Comes Challenge
What would I grab if a fire were headed toward my house and my Fiance and Kitty were already safe? I'd grab:
1. My purse with my wallet, phone, nook etc inside.
2. My file with all of my important documents
3. My portable hard drive
3. My photo albums
4. My jewelry
5. A few spare outfits
6. Cat food & bowls
#2 - Slake Your Thirst Challenge
My Drink:
Raspberry Lime Rickey
INGREDIENTS:
INGREDIENTS:
12 oz. package frozen raspberries
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
4 teaspoons grated zest and 1/2 cup juice from 4 limes
Club soda, chilled
Ice
2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
4 teaspoons grated zest and 1/2 cup juice from 4 limes
Club soda, chilled
Ice
DIRECTIONS:
Heat raspberries, sugar, and water in a saucepan over medium heat until the raspberries begin to release their juices, about five minutes. Mash the berries with a potato masher until the berries break down, then stir in the lime zest and juice. Simmer until the mixture is slightly thickened, about five minutes.

Pour the raspberry mixture through a fine-mesh strainer set over a bowl, pressing on solids to extract the liquid. This works best done in batches so the seeds don’t clog up the bottom of the mesh strainer. You should end up with about 2 1/2 cups syrup. Discard the berry solids. Refrigerate the syrup until completely cool, at least 30 minutes or up to 1 week. To serve, combine 3/4 cup club soda and 3 tablespoons syrup in tall, ice-filled glasses.

6/20 Reading Update
Worked all day but listened to more of The Night Circus on my commute home and heading to bed now to read a bit more of Shadow of Night!
6/21/12-DAY TWO:
#3 - Cover Lover Challenge
#4 - Wicked Title Trouble Challenge
And I posted my Wicked Title Trouble Challenge! Enter before 4pm Friday!
A Winner has been posted!
6/21 Reading Update
Not much progress...worked all day again and listened to more of The Night Circus on my commute to and from work and also listened on lunch! I should finish it during the commute to work tomorrow. Off to bed to read more Shadow of Night!
6/22/12-DAY THREE:
#5 - Sonnets & Songs
Sadly I am not creative--skipping this one as I am at work anyway!
I'm not the typical beach-goer...while others may envision laying out on a sandy beach getting a tan...I envision...exploring the bluffs and a light house and then picnicking high above the waves with a spectacular view.
So here I am at Acadia National Park in Maine.

For company I would bring Christian Bale - lets just pretend that he isn't married and I'm not engaged:p I'm sure we can make the stretch to call at least one of his roles a representation of a literary character, right?

(ok, now what was I working on...oh yeah...the soiree challenge)
And I would be wearing this

My read would be The Poetry of Robert Frost...because of course with Christian Bale with me I wouldn't be reading by myself...we would be reading poetry to each other!

*sigh*
6/22 Reading Update
Worked all day again. I finished listening to The Night Circus and spent the evening with book club discussing it! Hope to finish Shadow of Night tomorrow and start The Plight and Plot of Princess Penny.
6/23/12-DAY FOUR:
Form Completed!
#8 - Party up with Literature
Skipping this one too! I'm not very creative and don't really listen to music! lol
6/23 Reading Update
Spent the morning blogging and then the afternoon preparing for company which stayed until after 10 pm. Headed to bed to read some more Shadow of Night. Probably should not have selected a 592 page book for the readathon! LOL
6/24/12-DAY FIVE:
#9 - Wicked Summer Scorcher
Were I a vampire who would go up in flames if exposed to the sun, yet I had to go outside to retrieve some precious items, I would lather myself in sunscreen (if it works for the warmbloods it should help me too), throw on my heaviest medieval cloak with hood (I've skulked my way through dicier situations than this with my trusty cloak), don my most full coverage masque (ah...I miss those Venetian balls) and the tear off the refrigerator door...carry it over my head for additional shade (thank goodness for superhuman strength) and go save my items!
6/24 Reading Update
Chipped away at Shadow of Night but had a sinus headache all day and could not read much... Had a blast with this readathon even though I only read about 800 pages. Not too bad considering I had to work the 1st 3 days, had company the 4th and then had a headache the 5th!

I'm participating too! Of course...no surprise there, right? You have some good reading lined up. Good luck! I'll stop by for your challenge. =O)
ReplyDeleteOh wow, I still need to read Discovery of Witches and Night Circus, Entangled.. and I discovered Princess Penny last night and am intrigued! Good luck :D
